Rotation blower RB-150

Aeration of ponds

Rotating aerator “RB-150” serves to effective aerate all types of ponds with a minimum of energy consumption.

Ponds need oxygen. Whether it concerns ornamental ponds, swimming ponds or fishponds – oxygen deficiency reduces the quality of the water. In extreme cases the habitat for many plants and animals will get lost.

In the pond water aerobe bacteria play a major role. These bacteria feed on pollutants. If the oxygen content gets too low, the bacteria die. The result is malodorous turbid water.

Within the bio-filtration process oxygen in the water is required for converting ammonia to nitrite and further to nitrate. In the absence of the required, the nontoxic nitrate becomes nitrite again. As a result fish can suffocate due to insufficient oxygen transport.

The percentage of dissolved oxygen in the water decreases related to rising temperatures. Therefore, it is very important, in particular in warm regions or during the summer months, to sufficiently aerate the ponds.

PITT RB-150

The product

There are the many different ways to inject air in water. A compressor, an air tube and a porous stone is often used to slowly let rise small air bubbles to the water surface. But how effective are these vesicles?

As Physics taught us: the smaller the bubbles in the water, the larger the contact surface between water and the defined aerial amount. Furthermore the buoyancy of an air bubble in the water is dependent on its size. That implies: the smaller the air bubble, the slower its uplift and the longer the effective duration of contact with the water.

In developing the RB-150 PITT the task was the production of very small air bubbles with only low energy-input.

The PITT RB-150 is based on air-permeable hollow ceramic discs which feed the required oxygen in form of compressed air into the water.

In static operation of the discs the average bubble diameter is approx. 50 micrometers. The hollow discs are set in rotation by a gear engine. This causes the “breakaway” of the air leaving the ceramic surface and decreases the bubble diameter to approx. 15 micrometers. The effective contact surface can thereby be extended by approx. 1000%.

For aeration the pond water has to be simply pumped with only low pressure through our RB-150. The micro bubbles mingle with the water and the mixture flows back into the pond via a common hose.

The result: RB-150 PITT provides an most effective procedure to avoid turbidity and unpleasant smell by fully biological treatment for any kind of pond.
